Immigration to Canada under the Canadian Provincial Nominee Program

Most provinces in Canada have an agreement with the Canadian government that allows them to play a more direct role in selecting immigrants who wish to settle in their province.  The main advantage of the program is that the processing time for your application will be much faster and often you will have your immigration visas between 8 to 16 months.

The Provincial Nominee Class is designed to enable provinces to support the immigration of persons who have expressed an interest in settling in the particular province and whom the province believes will be able to contribute to the economic development and prosperity of that province and Canada.

The provincial nominee rules are meant to recognize that provincial governments are best positioned to determine the specific economic needs of their provinces and allows provinces to nominate immigrants who will contribute to the particular labour and economic needs of that province.

Business Applicants / Skilled Workers

Business applicants and skilled workers can apply under the Provincial Nominee Program.  Each province has set their own requirements and criteria for investors and entrepreneurs as well as skilled workers that must be met before you can be considered for a selection certificate by the province.

If you wish to apply under one of Canada’s Provincial Nominee programs, you must first submit an application to the province where you wish to settle.  Each province is allowed to establish its own selection criterions and procedures to choose immigrants.  It should be noted that even if you are nominated by a province, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has the final decision making authority on admissibility.  You are required to make a separate application to CIC for permanent residence.

As a provincial nominee, you will not be assessed on the selection factors of the Federal Skilled Worker Program but you will have to go through medical examinations and normal security screening procedures.
